Children with Special Educational Needs
Our Special Needs Co-ordinator (Senco) and learning support staff liaise with parent and class teachers in arranging support for these children. Regular consultations between parents, Senco, and class teachers are held when children are experiencing difficulties. An Individual Educational Plan (IEP) will be drawn up and reviewed on a regular basis by the class teacher to check the progress against targets.
If a child's needs cannot be fully met within our school, support will be accessed from outside agencies. They will work alongside teachers to ensure appropriate action is taken to address his or her needs. All our work is in line with the Special Educations Needs Code of Practice 2001.
The schools admission policy identifies the arrangements for the admission of children with disabilities as required by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. In particular it states that, in consultation with the Local Authority, we will admit and make provision for any child with a disability, providing that the placement is appropriate to the child's age, ability, aptitude and special educational needs, whilst also compatible with the interests of other children already in the school and with the efficient use of Local Authority resources.
