The Curriculum

Physical Education

Physical Education contributes both to a child's physical and emotional development and health. The school offers a balance of individual, team, co-operative and competitive activities that enable all children, irrespective of their ability, to succeed. Children are encouraged to participate fully in curriculum time PE, while developing their ability to observe, evaluate and refine their performances. Specialist coaching is received from the local Secondary school as part of the schools partnership project.

Basketball, football and tennis have all been well received by the children.

Movement, gymnastics and expressive dance are a vital part of developing creativity and body awareness and are covered in year R through to year 6.

As children develop, they learn ball skills in Key Stage One, which they refine when playing football, hockey, netball, cricket and rounders

Good sportsmanship and team work are encouraged throughout. Swimming is taught in year 4, 5, and 6.

After school, staff arrange a variety of clubs and activities which include netball, hockey, summer games activities, football skills (through Portsmouth Football Club), teamwork (through Hampshire Initiative) and keep fit activities are also available to the children.
