The Curriculum
Mathematics
- Acquire knowledge, skills and understanding through practical work, through tackling problems and through using physical material.
- Apply mathematics to the solution of a range of "real life" problems and to problems drawn from the whole curriculum.
- Explore and investigate within mathematics itself
We are keen to encourage the use of mental, as well as written methods, in our approach to number work.
Children are provided with opportunities to apply their number skills to practical purposes and, at the appropriate age, encouraged to measure and weigh practically, to interpret and make graphs, to resolve problems and to think logically.
We do expect the children to learn their tables and number facts, as these help enormously with problem solving.
